Who should pay for an out of town Jack and Jill party?

Here is my problem...my good friend recently asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding and has only gave me four months notice! The wedding itself is going to be very small as the couple is still in college and paying for almost everything themselves. The MOH and I (the only other bridesmaid) are also college students as well. The wedding is a destination wedding to a popular vacation spot so we will also have to pay for atleast two nights of hotel stay as well, which is fine. My question is...originally we were going to have the bridal shower local where most if not all her female friends and family members live. The MOH and I are very crafty and I am a great baker so we had planned to do the food, desserts, etc. ourselves and use free venues to keep the cost down since its just us two paying for everything. The bride just informed me this weekend (3 months before wedding) that she wants to have a couples shower the day before the wedding instead so the guests from the grooms side who are flying in can join in as well. Should the MOH and I still pay for the entire thing? Before the guest count for the shower was probably 20 or less. Now I'm sure it will be way more. HELP!
