New Zealand, very beautiful, yes I can see, but is it a fun place to be?

I am wanting to visit NZ in the near future and have researched it and damn it is beautiful I can see that. That is the reason for me to visit, but wanting to stay for a month or so I want to know if it is a fun place to be. I am 40 years old so the wild party beach scene is not my thing, but I am no old man wanting to visit the cathedrals either. Straight up are you New Zealanders out there having fun being in the NZ?
