Whats with the jl audio subs? are they top of the line?

for my car i see alot of people buying the jl audio subs and it gets me wondering if they are really that amazing or what. the wattage seems low and i would think that relates to the power(kind of a sub/amp newb) but the car i own is really nice and everyone who has one their system is jl, so could you fill me in on the hype? ty
