Hey guys i really want to do marching band next year but i dont want to be viewed as a "band geek"?

i am in 8th grade and im the head snare on my schools drumline. i really enjoy it i love to watch other bands play also. when my friends want to hang out and i have band i tell them" i have drum line" and they will say you are so lame. i really want to do marching band but dont want to be looked at as a band geek! what should i do?
